Arrive in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city. Built on Seven hills, it’s alleyways wind through this historic town filled with amazing architecture and delicious food. One of the oldest cities in the world, there is much to explore over the next few days. Your private guide will be waiting to transfer you to your charming boutique hotel located at the top of the upscale Avenida de Liberdade. Once you’ve had a chance to check in and get settled, you will be met by your driver and taken to the dock for your private sunset sailboat ride on the Tagus River.

See the iconic sites of Lisbon on a privately guided walking tour. The tour is totally customized to your preferences but we strongly recommend the historic district of Belem from which the famous explorers of Portugal set out to conquer the world. Head to the Baixa district which was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake and has beautiful cobbled streets, named after the artisans who traded in the area.
Wander the ancient neighborhoods of Mouraria and Downtown Lisbon with your expert local guide. You’ll get a true sense of historic Lisbon while you explore neighborhoods of the city away from the heavily trodden tourist paths. Along the tour, you will experience the very real and local vibe while you taste staples of Portuguese cuisine.
Spend the day exploring two nearby must see destinations: Sintra and Cascais. While best known for its iconic Pena Palace, we recommend avoiding the crowds and allowing your local guide to show you another side of Sintra by touring it’s narrow lanes with fairy-tale palaces and extravagant villas as scenery. Afterwards, you’ll head out along the coast and make a stop in Cascais, a vibrant seaside resort on the Atlantic coast of Portugal, once the summer holiday destination of the Portuguese Royal Family. As you travel along the coastal roads you´ll enjoy wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean and Tagus River. You’ll stop at Boca do Inferno and Cabo da Roca, where you will find the most western point of the European continent before heading back to Lisbon.
This morning, meet your driver for your private transfer to Coimbra, a city full of picturesque multicolored houses, museums and monuments, all infused with the sound of Fado. Along the way, you will stop in Fatima, one of Europe’s most important pilgrimage sights and truly a sight to see. On arrival in Coimbra, you’ll have a guided tour of the city before enjoying a Fado show at a local venue.

Porto was made for exploring on foot and this afternoon, you’ll do just that, taking in the city’s historic center with its network of alleys, tile-fronted churches, and varied monuments. With your private guide, visit some of the city’s key historic sites: the Romanesque cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century; former stock exchange, the Palácio da Bolsa; and the beautiful São Bento railway station, whose walls tell the history of Portugal through more than 20,000 tiles. Explore the neighborhood of Praça da Ribeira with its winding, cobbled streets; walk down Porto’s main thoroughfare, the architecturally impressive Avenida dos Aliados; and visit the historic Livraria Lello bookstore, said to have inspired JK Rowling!
This morning, meet your expert guide in the hotel lobby to explore the wine region of the Douro Valley on this immersive excursion. Feast your senses on the Douro’s many magnificent wineries, restaurants, and viewpoints. You’ll visit several vineyards and be introduced to some of the region’s best varietals. Learn about the history of the wine heritage with the help of your guide and local winemakers. Of course, no trip to the Douro Valley would be complete without tasting a few world-class wines and a traditional Portuguese lunch.
Experience the day like a local and go for an e-bike ride along the Douro river until you reach the ocean. From there follow towards north while feeling the cool Atlantic Ocean breeze to the neighboring coastal city of Matosinhos. Throughout the way, your guide will share the history of the area. You will have the chance to explore some spots like “Cantareira” fishing community, the “Passeio Alegre” garden, or Matosinhos beach and “Parque da Cidade do Porto” (Porto’s city Park). Lunch is served at one of the typical fish restaurants in Matosinhos, where only the freshest fish is provided!
Today you will say goodbye to your local guide and head to the airport for your flight home or to your next destination.
Add some extra days to explore the beaches and villages of the Algarve region.
